HomCo's Young Builder Project of the Month: How to Build a Pencil Holder

Get ready for this month's Young Builder project with Marissa! As the school season approaches, it's the perfect time to create a fun and functional pencil holder. This simple DIY project involves just a few materials: four predrilled wood pieces, thicker framing nails, and a hammer. Follow Marissa's step-by-step guide, and you'll have a personalized pencil holder ready in no time. Join us on Saturday, August 17th, for this fun event! Happy building!

What You’ll Need for This Project

  • Hammer
  • Paint for Decorating!

Young Builder Kit:

  • 4 Pieces with Predrilled Holes
  • Nails

Step #1: Line Up the Wood Pieces

Watch Marissa as she lines up the bottom hole into the bottom piece. Put the bottom piece all the way to the end so we can fit the other side pieces.

Then, look at the side with no predrilled holes. You’ll line it up on the side with the predrilled holes.

Take the last piece and line it up like Marissa shows.

Step #2: Hammer Time!

Watch Marissa as she attaches the bottom, back and top pieces. You’ll line up the holes, push in the nails with your fingers and then hammer them in!

Step #3: Paint and decorate your pencil holder!

Now comes the most fun part! Painting and decorating your new pencil holder! Choose your favorite colors and grab some paint brushes.

You can choose bold, bright colors or a more subtle, pastel palette. Add patterns, stickers, or even stencils to make your pencil holder unique. This step is all about YOU, so let your imagination run wild!

Join us for August's Young Builder Event

And there you have it—your very own handmade pencil holder! With Marissa's easy-to-follow instructions, creating this project was a breeze. If you missed the event, don't worry! We usually have extra project kits available. Swing by and grab one so you can join in on the fun. Happy building, and have a fantastic start to the school year! We’ll see you next month for another Young Builder project at HomCo!
