Young Builders Project: 4th of July String Stars
At HomCo, we believe creativity, hands-on fun, and a little bit of elbow grease are the perfect combo for building confidence and skills in kids. That’s why we’re excited for this month’s Young Builder project! It's just in time to celebrate the red, white, and blue!
Join us on June 21st to make a festive String Star craft that’s perfect for the Fourth of July. Whether it ends up on your front porch, living room wall, or bedroom door, this DIY project is sure to spark some patriotic pride.

Project Kit Includes:
- 1 plank of wood (pre-cut to size)
- Red, white, and blue string
- 15 nails
- 1 star-shaped paper template
- Step-by-step instructions
To-Do List:
Line It Up
Place the star template on the wood plank. Use one nail to temporarily tack the paper in place.
Mark the Points
Lightly tap nails through each star point and corner on the paper to mark the layout—about 15 nails total. Then remove the template and hammer in your nails, leaving about half an inch sticking out. These will be your anchor points for stringing.
Red String First
Tie a double knot around one nail and begin forming your star shape by zig-zagging the string across the nails. Go around the star shape several times to build some thickness, then finish with a tight knot and trim any extra string.
Repeat with White and Blue
Repeat the same process with the white string and then the blue string. You can layer the colors or place them next to each other—get creative and make it your own!
Display and Celebrate
Your 4th of July String Star is ready to hang and show off! Whether it’s indoors or outdoors, this craft is a fun and festive way to celebrate.
We hope you can join us in-store at HomCo on Friday, June 21st, for this fun and festive Young Builder event. You’ll get to build your own patriotic stars and take it home!
Can’t make it that day? No worries! Ask at the register for any extra project kits. We always try to keep a few on hand for our Young Builder friends. We can’t wait to see what you create!
