How to Build a Valentine’s Day LOVE Sign – HomCo’s Young Builders Project of the Month
Looking for a fun and creative project for your little builder? This month, we’re making a Valentine’s Day LOVE sign using simple wood pieces and a little bit of creativity. This hands-on activity is perfect for young builders to practice hammering, assembling, and decorating!
Supplies You'll Need | Young Builders Kit
- 1 large wooden board (for the base)
- Smaller wood pieces for the letters:
- "L": 1 large piece + 1 small piece
- "V": 2 angled wood pieces
- "E": 1 long piece, 2 medium-sized pieces, 1 short piece
- 1 heart-shaped sticker for the "O"
- Nails
- Hammer
Step-By-Step Instructions to Assemble Your LOVE Sign
Step 1: Arrange the letters
Lay the eight wooden pieces on top of the large wooden base to spell out the word “LOVE.” Leave space for the heart sticker, which will act as the letter “O.” Once everything looks just right, use a pencil or marker to gently mark where each nail will go. These marks help keep the letters in place while building.

Step 2: Hammer the nails
With help from a grown-up, carefully hammer each nail into the marked spots. Take your time and work steadily to keep the letters straight and secure. This step is a great opportunity to practice coordination and basic tool skills.

Step 3: Add the heart
Peel the backing off the heart sticker and place it in the center of the word to create the “O” in LOVE. Press it down firmly, and just like that, your sign comes together!
