Young Builders Project:
Looking for the perfect handmade gift for Mother’s Day? This month’s Young Builders project at HomCo is a simple and heartfelt DIY jewelry stand that kids can create with just a bit of glue, creativity, and love. Learn how to personalize this one-of-a-kind gift and make Mom feel extra special!
Michelle, our wonderful supervisor and crafting guide, walks kids (and parents!) through this month’s project: a DIY jewelry stand that’s perfect for holding bracelets, necklaces, or even scrunchies. It’s a fun and easy project kids can make themselves—just in time to surprise their favorite mom, grandma, auntie, or caregiver.
What You’ll Need:
- 1 rectangular wooden base
- 1 long, skinny dowel
- 1 shorter, thicker dowel
- Glue (wood glue or hot glue gun)
- Paint, stain, markers, or crayons (optional)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Decorate Your Pieces
Paint, stain, or color your base and dowels however you like. Get creative! Just make sure everything is fully dry before moving on to assembly.
Step 2: Attach the Long Dowel
Place a small dab of glue into the hole on the base. Insert the longer, skinnier dowel firmly and let it dry completely.
Step 3: Add the Top Dowel
Put a dab of glue into the hole of the thicker, shorter dowel (just enough so it doesn’t overflow). Place it carefully on top of the tall dowel. Press gently and let dry.
Step 4: Let It Set
Make sure everything is dry and stable before using your jewelry stand.
That’s it! Your custom jewelry stand is complete.
