Young Builders: Easter Basket & Tool Caddy DIY
This month, we're making an Easter Basket. But the best part? After Easter, it doubles as a tool caddy (a small wooden tote you can carry things in... like crayons, toys, or tools)! You can build it at HomCo, or take it home to build with your whole family and follow along on your phone.
Ready to get started? Let's go!
Supplies You'll Need | Young Builders Kit
In your kit, you'll find:
- One wooden base
- Two long side pieces
- Two shorter end pieces
- One wooden dowel handle
- Nails
- A hammer
- A pencil to mark your nail spots
Make sure your grown-up helper is with you! You're building this together!
Step-By-Step Instructions to Assemble Your Wooden Easter Basket
Step 1: Lay Out Your Pieces
Start by laying all the pieces on your table:
- The long pieces are the sides
- The short pieces are the ends
- The dowel is your handle
This helps you see the shape of your Easter Basket before you build!

Step 2: Attach the Side Pieces
- Place one long side piece along the edge of the base
- Use your pencil to mark where the nails will go
- With your grown-up, gently hammer the nails in
- Great work! Now do the same thing on the other side.
Step 3: Add the End Pieces
- Attach the two short end pieces to the base and sides
- Mark your nail spots first
- Carefully hammer in your nails
Now your basket is really taking shape!

Step 4: Add Your Handle
Slide the wooden dowel into the holes on the end pieces. Make sure it fits snug. This is how you'll carry your Easter Basket (and later your little tote or tool box for all kinds of things)!

Step 5: Decorate!
Once everything is secure, decorate your basket with:
- Paint
- Stickers
- Markers
- Anything you like!
Make it colorful for Easter or design it for your future toolbox! You've built a wooden Easter Basket that you can keep using all year long as a tool caddy: a perfect little tote for carrying your favorite things.
