Welcome to another month of Young Builders! This month, Marissa from HomCo Lumber & Hardware, is showing young builders how to make their very own picture frame. Let's dive in!

What You'll Need for This Project

  • Two narrow pieces of wood with pre-drilled holes
  • Four planks of wood
  • Framing nails
  • Eye bolts
  • Clothespin
  • String
  • Hot glue gun (optional)
  • Stain or paint (optional)

Step 1: Prepare Your Materials

Begin by gathering all your materials and laying them out in your workspace. Ensure your planks of wood are aligned horizontally and touching each other.

Step 2: Assemble the Base

Add framing nails to the narrow pieces of wood in the pre-drilled holes. Position the narrow pieces of wood over the planks horizontally. Hammer the nails in place!

Step 3: Attach Eye Bolts

Take your eye bolts and screw them into the wood, ensuring they are straight and firmly secured. If necessary, have an adult assist you in creating starter holes for the eye bolts.

Step 4: String it Up

Thread strings through the eye bolts and tie knots to secure them. Double knotting the strings will provide extra strength and durability.

Step 5: Add a Clothespin

For the finishing touch, glue a clothespin near the top of the hanger using a hot glue gun or your preferred adhesive. This will serve as a convenient holder for your pictures.

Step 6: Personalize Your Picture Hanger

Now comes the fun part! Customize your picture hanger to match your personal style. You can stain or paint the wood to give it a unique look. Feel free to get creative!

March's Young Builder event is a great way to spend a morning with your kids, plus you get to take home a very special picture hanger. Mark your calendars for March 16th and join us for a fun-filled day of crafting, fresh-baked cookies, and spending time with your kids! We hope to see you there!
