How to Build a Pumpkin Centerpiece | HomCo's Young Builder Project of the Month

It's a perfect fall project that's easy to make and a great way to get your little ones excited about crafting. Whether you're decorating your front door for the season or adding a homemade touch to your home decor, this DIY project will be a hit.
Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get started:
Materials Needed:
- A block of wood for the stem
- 3 pieces of wood for the pumpkin shape
- 2 back pieces to hold the pumpkin together
- Nails, hammer, and glue
- Paint, stain, or other decorations to customize your pumpkin centerpiece
Step 1: Prepare the Pumpkin Pieces
Start by hammering 6 nails partway through the smaller pieces that will form the body of your pumpkin. This helps make it easier to assemble the project later.
Step 2: Assemble the Pumpkin Body
Lay your 3 pumpkin pieces flat on your work surface. Then, take one of the back pieces and position it about a third of the way down. Begin by hammering in the center nail and securing the back piece to the pumpkin. Once the center nail is in, hammer the two outside nails to lock everything in place.
Step 3: Add the Second Back Piece
Next, repeat the process with the second back piece, securing it in the same way to the opposite side of the pumpkin pieces. This helps hold your pumpkin structure together.
Step 4: Attach the Stem
It's time to give your pumpkin its final touch— the stem! Use glue to attach the block of wood to the top of your pumpkin. If you visit us in-store, you can use our HomCo glue, or if you're doing this at home, a hot glue gun works just as well. Place the stem in the center and hold it down while the glue dries.
Step 5: Decorate Your Pumpkin
Now for the fun part—get creative! Paint your pumpkin, stain it for a rustic look, or add any extra decorations you like. Make it your own!
