What You’ll need for this Project
- Four blocks of wood
- Four wood disks
- Five wood cylinders
- Glue
- Twine
- Paint (optional)
Step #1: Arrange Your Blocks
First, we’re going to arrange our blocks of wood. When the centerpiece is complete, these will resemble pilgrims. To achieve this effect, start by putting the tallest block of wood in the back.
Then, the second and third largest pieces go side by side in front of the tall block. (Add a thin line of glue on the back of each block to secure them to the tall block.)
Finally, add another thin line of glue to the back of the shortest block and place it in front, centered in between the two middle pieces.
Step #2: Add the Disks and Cylinders of Wood
After arranging and gluing the blocks, add a drop of glue to the bottom of four wooden disks.
Next, place one disk (glue-side down) on top of each block. These disks will form the brims of each pilgrim's hat.
Finally, add a drop of glue to the bottom of each wood cylinder and place one atop each disk. The cylinders form the top of each hat.
Step #3: Wrap Your Creation in Twine
Carefully wrap your entire creation with twine. You can tie the twine in a bow or create a rustic, unfinished look by double-knotting it and leaving the ends loose or wrapping them back around the centerpiece.
Step #4: Fray a Segment of Twine
Cut another segment of twine or rope approximately the same length as the one you used to wrap your centerpiece. Holding the string at one end, pull and fray the entire length of the segment, so it resembles straw.
Then, arrange the frayed rope at the base of your centerpiece to give it a rustic look. Finally, you can paint the remaining wood disk to resemble a pumpkin and place it in the “straw pile,” if you’d like. You can also add additional fall items to make your centerpiece unique, including pinecones, acorns, and other signs of nature you can find in your yard.
