This month we’re building the perfect gift for Father’s Day! This coffee cup holder is perfect for holding your favorite mugs that you’d like to display on the kitchen counter. The best part is, you’ll be able to customize it any way you’d like. You can stain it or paint it depending on what you think will look best! Maybe dad has dark pottery mugs and you think a white mug holder would show them off perfectly. Whatever you choose, we know dad will love it!
HomCo's Young Bulider event is now in-person every 3rd Saturday of the month! Stop by HomCo with your young builders to particpate! * Kits are available, while supplies last.
What You’ll Need for This Project
- HomCo DIY Kit, which includes:
- Nails
- Large Wood Base
- Small Wood Platform
- Long Narrow Piece of Wood
- 3 Hanging Hooks
- Instructions
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Paint or Stain
- Wood Glue
- Hammer
Step #1: Draw Lines on Base
Using your pencil and ruler, draw diagonal lines across the base. You’ll draw from one corner to the other to make a center spot. You’ll do the same thing on the smaller platform as well. The goal is to make sure everything is centered!
Step #2: Glue Wood Pieces Together
- Place wood glue onto the top of the base.
- Lay down the smaller wood platform on top of the base. (Be sure you line up the predrilled nail holes.)
- Place wood glue onto the platform.
- Align your narrow stand on top of the platform. (Line up the nail holes.)
Step #3: Secure Base to Stand with Nails
Using the pre-drilled nail holes, hammer two nails through the bottom of the base to secure the stand.
Step #4: Paint All 3 Pieces
Now it’s time to paint or stain your coffee cup holder. You’ll want to paint all 3 pieces. Be sure to allow it to dry completely prior to gluing it together or hanging mugs on it.
Step #5: Place Cup Hooks on Stand
Using your hands, gently screw the cup hooks into the stand.
Tip! It is a good idea to check your cup sizes first to ensure you don't place the hooks too low or too close together.
Place your favorite coffee, tea or hot cocoa mugs on the stand! Need a Father’s Day gift he’s sure to love? Wrap up your new coffee cup holder for your dad this Father’s Day!
Conclusion
Whether you decide to make the coffee cup holder for yourself or wrap it up as a gift for Father’s Day, it will be a fun project to create at home! The best part is that you can get creative and make it your own. Stain it, paint it, add stickers or color it, the choice is yours! Have fun!
