A new year arrives, and with it, 365 days to create new memories. So why not work on a little project to help you remember your most precious moments? It's fun, easy and it will make your pictures even more special!
Ready to get started? Pick up this month’s Young Builder’s kit at HomCo, and let's get to work!
What You’ll Need for This Project
- HomCo DIY Kit, which includes:
- 5 pieces of wood (3 bigger pieces and 2 small pieces of the same size)
- 8 nails
- Twine
- Clothespin
- 2 Eye hooks
- Instructions
- Hammer
- Pliers
- Glue
Step #1: Get your kit!
First thing you need to do is go to HomCo and get the Young Builder’s DIY kit with everything you’ll need to complete this project. Also, make sure you have a hammer, some pliers, glue -- and of course an adult to help you use the tools safely
Step #2: Line up the backing
Take the three big pieces of wood that come in the kit. You’ll notice that they have a smooth edge as well as a rough edge. Lay them anyway you want -- you can choose if you want to lay down the rough edge or the smooth edge or mix it up and do both. It’s time to be creative!
Step #3: Bind the wood together
After you finalize your lineup, you need to nail the two small pieces of wood onto the other three pieces. For this, you will need adult supervision.
You will need six nails, so that both of your small wood pieces end up binding all the back pieces together. You can place them about an inch down from the top and then from the bottom. You can use a tape measure if you like it to be perfect, or you can just pick a spot to hammer on your own. The end result should be like the one in the picture.
Step #4: You’ll need to hang your piece
Now it's time to create something to use to hang your frame on the wall. Remember the eye hooks that came in the DIY kit? Well, you'll need to screw them to the top of your frame. You can hand screw them or use the pliers. Again, do this with adult supervision. After you have both eye hooks in place, thread the twine through both hooks and tie a knot at the top to secure it.
Step #5: Add the clothespin
You'll need the clothespin to hang your picture on your frame. You can use a hot-glue gun or any extra strong glue you have at hand, and with just a drop, secure the clothespin in the middle of your frame, like it's shown in the picture.
Conclusion
Now you have a great project to do over the weekend with your parents! You can put pictures of your friends, family, pets, or even yourself! And the best part is that this is just a base; you can get as creative as you want to make your picture frame unique. You can paint it, decorate it and change it however you want. And of course feel free to change the picture it holds as many times as you want!
Keep an eye out for our next projects!
