Just because school is out doesn’t mean that there isn’t still room for some fun, creative activities! June’s Young Builder Event features a wooden flag that will be perfect to display in the yard all summer long! This event is perfect for all ages, as it brings an atmosphere of creativity and togetherness. With plenty of fresh-baked cookies to snack on, kids can get creative in crafting fun projects with their own two hands! We hope to see you there on the third Saturday of the month, June 17th!

What You’ll Need for This Project

Step #1: Paint each piece as desired

“Paint

If you would like your wood flag painted consider painting your boards before assembly and letting them dry. This will make it easier to ensure even coverage when applying the coat of paint.

Step #2: Once dry, line up three pieces vertically and place one piece at the top horizontally

“Once

Once you are ready to assemble your wooden flag, lay out the design so that the board with three holes drilled in is laying horizontally above the remaining three pieces. Make sure that the three vertical boards are aligned so that their pre-drolled holes are near the horizontal board.

Step #3: Attach the 2 eye hooks near the end of the horizontal piece

“Attach

Once you have everything lined up, it is a good idea to attach the two eye hooks to the topmost edge of the horizontal board so you do not have the hold the weight of the entire assembled project. Make sure to screw in the eye hooks on the edge opposite the 3 pre-drilled holes.

Step #4: Connect each vertical piece to the horizontal piece (Thru the pre-drilled holes) using wire.

“Connect

Attach the vertical boards to the horizontal board by threading wire to each vertical board’s hole with the corresponding hole on the horizontal board. Twist the two end pieces of the wire together to hold them in place.

Step #5: String the twine thru the eye hooks to hang

“tring

Finally, cut a length of twine long enough to thread through each eye hook with enough left over to tie each end together and hang your wooden flag from.

Conclusion

HomCo’s Young Builder event is a fantastic opportunity for families to come out and enjoy their weekend together, learning valuable lessons while having fun. Kids will love the chance to create their crafts, exploring their imaginative side, and gain skills that they otherwise wouldn’t have access to. Not only that but safety around tools and the work area will also be touched upon, making sure children are aware of the responsibilities that come with using such tools. Mark your calendars now for an amazing family-friendly Saturday at 9 am!
