Join us this Saturday, March 18th for our Young Builder’s event where kids can make their hardware windchimes to hang outside and catch the spring breeze! Not only will your kids be thrilled to take home a decoration of their very own creation, but they will learn valuable skills like tying knots! So come on down to HomCo on the third Saturday of the month at 9 a.m. and join in on the fun!
What You’ll Need for This Project
- A piece of wood
- String (or something similar ex. Chain, fishing line)
- Washers
- Nuts
- And/or any hangable Hardware
Step #1: Attach String To Hang From
Cut a length of string that is long enough to thread through each of the outermost pre-drilled holes on the board. The string should be long enough to hang from. Thread the string through the outermost hole drilled into the board and pull through the other outermost hole at the far end. Tie the two loose ends together to create a triangle shape with the board forming the base of the triangle and the knot the top point.
Step #2: Thread And Attach Strings To Hold Chimes
In the remaining holes, between the two outermost holes, thread one end of the string through, leaving enough dangling below to the desired length of your windchimes. Tie the short end of the string off so that it cannot be pulled through the hole. Repeat this process for each hole in the board.
Step #3: Tie On Hardware Chimes
Thread the desired amount of hardware pieces into the stings hanging off the board, tying a knot after each one to hold it in place. Repeat this process with each string.
Step #4: (Optional) Paint
Now that your windchime is built you can leave it as is, or you can decorate it however you see fit, like using wood stain or paint to put your personal touch on it!
