December is a busy time of year for everyone, but it's also a great time to spend some quality time with your kids. If you're looking for a fun activity that the whole family can enjoy, HomCo is hosting a Young Builders event this month. The project for this month is a homemade, decorative tree. Not only will your kids have a blast making their own tree, but they'll also be able to take it home and proudly display it as a Holiday decoration. In addition, making your own decorations is a great way to save money during the Holiday season. So come on down to HomCo Saturday, December 17th at 9 a.m. and join in on the fun!
What You’ll Need for This Project
- 1 short piece of wood for the base
- 1 long piece of wood for the trunk
- 6x pieces of wood cut to be tree-shaped
- 2x large nails
- 6x smaller, finishing nails
Step #1: Lay Out Tree Shape
Start by laying out the 6 pieces of wood that are cut to be tree-shaped. Make sure to arrange them so smallest to largest so that the triangle piece is at the top and the longes piece is at the bottom.
Step #2: Attach The Longer Piece Of Wood
Lay the longer piece of wood over the top of the tree-shaped pieces so that the top does not go above the point of the triangle and so that there is an inch or two sticking out past the bottom piece. Then use the small, finishing nails to secure the long “treetrunk” to each of the tree-shaped pieces. Use one nail per tree-shaped piece.
Step #3: Attach The Shorter Piece Of Wood As A Base
Attach the remaining short board as the tree’s base. Angle the tree so that the bottom of the “tree trunk” rests on the side of the baseboard. Use the two larger nails to attach the “tree trunk” to the base.
Step #4: Decorate
Now that your tree is built it is up to you to decorate it however you would like! Use paint, glitter, stickers, and pipe cleaners to make it look like the real thing!
Conclusion
The HomCo Young Builders Event is the perfect opportunity for parents to get crafty with their kids. Not only is it a great way to spend some quality time together, but it's also a chance to create something unique and special. This month's project is a homemade, decorative tree. The tree will be the perfect gift to give for the holidays, and it's a great way to teach kids about the importance of giving. So mark your calendars and join us for a fun-filled day of crafting and spending time with your kids. We hope to see you there Saturday, December 17th at 9 a.m.!
